Too often, people look for the differences rather than the areas where commonality creates harmony. Many people use the phrase we can agree to disagree, and this is true to a point. It’s always good to respect each other’s differences, especially if they are things like race, where we’re from and other areas that are out of our control. Just remember that some principles create excellent results, while other opposing principles can create poor results in our lives.
One person may choose to not pay taxes while the other is on time and timely about exposing everything to the IRS. This is an example of a belief and principle belief that is a reason to divide. It’s always proper to keep each subject in proper context and realize we won’t always agree on the same things. If freedom is to accept everyone, we need to be specific about the boundaries and laws we implement because that’s what makes up a structured and prosperous society.
