In this famous quote Thoreau is reflecting on the topic of understanding. Many times a topic is taken out of context or the true intent is misunderstood. It’s easy to spin an idea away from it’s true meaning and get people on a completely different topic, while all along they believe they are arguing a different point. This is specifically true in politics. Thoreau loved nature and understood many of the laws of the universe. Many times as we become further educated on a subject, in the classroom or self educated, we begin to see it differently. We become enlightened.
The question is not what you look at, but what you see.
Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862)
