This great quote exemplifies the vast movement in the mindfulness genre. With so many things to distract us, it’s tougher than ever for humans to settle our mind and live in the moment with purpose and awareness. Whether or not we know it, we are striving to accomplish specific goals.
Every human action is goal oriented, whether it’s just to relax or to waste time. It doesn’t need to be a productive goal planned with our conscious mind to be called as such. The subconscious mind takes over on its own. It moves us toward our goal, whether we use mindfulness to plan for it consciously, or we are simply drifting, like most people. Our subconscious reigns high and goes to work on the goal, anyway.
If you correct your mind, the rest of your life will fall into place.
Lao Tzu
Humans are hard-wired to be persistent. Lots of people think laziness is a problem of ambition and lack of persistence, where it’s actually an act of being persistent. The key is to be a quitter. Learn how to quit putting persistence into the wrong goal. Yes, laziness is a goal of the subconscious.
Studying and implementing mindfulness methods can teach you how to harness and gain control over your mind, like Lao Tzu says. All the while controlling concentration splitting, which can cause many problems and ailments.
